Dischi che hanno compiuto mezzo secolo. In questo 2024 ne abbiamo celebrati parecchi e oggi, 22 novembre, uno fondamentale: “The Lamb Lies On Broadway” dei Genesis. Forse perché il 1974 è stato “the most Seventies year of the Seventies”, come lo definisce la rivista statunitense Rolling Stone, che ha colto l’occasione per compilare la sua classifica dei… 74 migliori album del 1974. “Un periodo in cui il mondo della musica stava cambiando rapidamente, e lo stesso valeva per il resto della cultura”, ricorda Rolling Stone citando alcuni feticci del periodo come streaking, cassette 8-track, Scooby-Doo e il kung-fu, mentre al cinema impazzavano film come “Mezzogiorno e mezzo di fuoco” e “Il padrino - Parte II”. Un anno fertile anche perché “una nuova generazione di superstar stava inventando il futuro: Joni Mitchell, Stevie Wonder, Elton John, Neil Young, David Bowie. Gli sperimentatori più eccentrici si muovevano ai margini, da George Clinton a Brian Eno fino a Betty Davis. La radio era un ottovolante di emozioni con disco, glam rock, prog, country, pop commerciale, soul di Philadelphia e morbide atmosfere californiane”.
Ecco, quindi, la lista dei 74 migliori album del 1974 di Rolling Stone, che tiene insieme “classici senza tempo venerati in tutto il mondo”, ma anche “tesori nascosti, cult, rarità”, con un minimo comun denominatore: tutti suonano ancora fantastici nel 2024 (qui il servizio completo).
